Add an email address or domain to the safe list or white list of Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo and more

Whitelist sender email addresses to prevent messages from ending up in your spam folder

Ensure that email messages from specific addresses (boxes or domains) reach your inbox, and not your junk or spam folder, by adding them to a safe senders list, also called «white list».

Gmail

To ensure that you receive email messages in your inbox, you can add the email address to your contact list. If one of our messages has ended up in your spam folder, you can mark it as "Normal Mail" to whitelist it.

  1. Select contacts on the left side of your Gmail inbox.
  2. Select Create a Contact from the top menu.
  3. Enter the email address in the primary email address box.
  4. Select Save.

Hotmail (now also called Outlook.com)

  1. Open your Outlook inbox.
  2. Select Options at the top right (next to the question mark).
  3. Select More options > Safe and blocked senders (under Prevent Spam) > Safe senders.
  4. In the space provided, type the address.
    Example: You can enter a specific email address or use *xxxxx.com or @xxxxx.com to whitelist the domain (replace xxxxx with the domain name).
  5. Select Add to list.
  6. Make sure the safe mailing list box has the address you entered, and select OK.

Yahoo

In Yahoo Mail, your Contacts list is your white list. To add the From Address to your Yahoo contacts:

  1. Open your Yahoo inbox.
  2. Click the address book icon in Yahoo! Mail logo. When you hover your mouse over the icon, it will say Contacts.
  3. Click on “New Contact”.
  4. Fill out the fields of your Contact.
  5. Click Save.

Outlook.com

  • For 2003, 2007 and Express – Without an example email address in your inbox:
    1. Select Actions in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
    2. Select Junk Email.
    3. Select Junk Email Options…
    4. Click the Safe Sender tab.
    5. Click Add.
    6. Enter the email address you want to add to your safe senders list.
    7. Click OK.
  • For 2003, 2007 and Express – With a sample email address in your inbox:
    1. Open the email message.
    2. In the Toolbar option at the top, click the Safe Lists drop-down menu.
      Note: This is located in the «Spam»
    3. Select “Add sender to address book.”
    4. Click OK.
  • For 2003, 2007 and Express – To whitelist an entire domain:
    1. Open the email message.
    2. In the Toolbar option at the top, click the Safe Lists drop-down menu.
      Note: This is located in the «Spam»
    3. Select “Add sender domain (@example.com) to safe senders list.
    4. ClickOK.
  • By 2010
    1. In Outlook, go to the Home tab.
    2. Click the Spam button.
    3. Select “Spam Email Options” from the drop-down list.
    4. Go to the Safe Senders tab.
    5. Enter the email address or domain name you want to add.
    6. Click OK.
  • For 2013
  1. In Outlook, go to the Home tab.
  2. Click Spam > Spam Options.
  3. Select the Safe Senders tab and click Add.
  4. In the Add address or domain box, enter the email address or domain name you want to whitelist.
  5. Click OK and close the window.
  • Express
    1. In Outlook, go to the Tools menu.
    2. Click on “Address Book.”
    3. Click New and select New Contact from the drop-down menu.
    4. Enter the email address and include any details you want.
    5. ClickOK.

MacMail

  1. Open the email message.
  2. Ctrl-click the sender email address and select “Open in Address Book.”
  3. Check the sender's contact details.
  4. Click Save.

McAfee SpamKiller

  1. Click on Friends.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter your contact's domain.
  4. Click OK.

MSN

  1. Select Settings: Mail | Spam (bottom left, just above Calendar).
  2. On the mail settings screen, select Spam Restriction.
  3. Select Safe List.
  4. Enter the email address.
    Example: You can enter a specific email address or use *xxxxx.com or @xxxxx.com to whitelist the domain (replace xxxxx with the domain name).
  5. Select Add.

Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Check if your contact's email is in your spam folder, right-click on the email and choose the “Mark as Junk” option.
  2. Click Address Book.
  3. Make sure Personal Address Book is highlighted.
  4. Click New Card, the new card window will be displayed.
  5. In the Contact tab, copy your contact's "From" address and paste it into the Mail dialog box.
  6. Click OK.

Norton AntiSpam

The AntiSpam feature works together with Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Yahoo and MSN/Hotmail to block spam messages before they reach your inbox. To ensure that emails reach you, you can add us to your Personal Friends List or Global Friends List. Here's what you can do:

  1. Start Norton AntiSpam, select the Status and Settings tab.
  2. Select AntiSpam.
  3. Select the Configure button on the lower right side of the screen.
  4. Select the Allow List tab, second tab in the tab list.
  5. Select Add.
  6. Enter the email address in the Email Address box.
  7. Select OK.

Spam Assassin

  1. Locate the Spam Assassin folder on your hard drive, and open it.
  2. There will be a file called user_prefs. Open it with a text editor (such as Notepad).
  3. If no such file exists, create it, instructions are available at this site website.
  4. Create a new line in the file. On that line, type whitelist_from, followed by the address you want to whitelist. To whitelist your domain, enter @xxxxxx.com (replace xxxxx with the domain name).
  5. Save and close the file.

Email messages from this sender will be delivered to your Inbox.
